Not far into the hike you’ll find standing water on the trail from snowmelt and will need to navigate ice around rocks on those steep inclines. Spikes worked fine. Once you hit the junction and take the left to Jackson the snow becomes more soft. There are many post holes, some deeper than I am tall. Snowshoes would help, especially on the way down, but I didn’t need them so they stayed on my pack. The start of the scrambles are still no largely covered and easy to climb. The last section (by the first cairn you see) is clear of snow/ice- spikes can come off to walk up the ledges to the summit. |
