Bare boot for the first 1.5 miles to the first big stream crossing then switched to micro spikes. Stayed in spikes until about 0.5 mile before the ridge. Postholes were mostly to the side of the trail but monorail was stable- less so on the return trip however! Happy I switched to snowshoes before the ridge. It was a mess with deep postholes. Saw 5 people today and only 2 had snowshoes. Saw a couple guys sink in to about mid-thigh or hip on the ridge and just before the ridge. Stayed in snowshoes until I got back to the Spur for Bald Peak when I switched back to spikes. Barebooted about the last two miles. Of course this will all change over the next couple days. Will probably be mostly mud to Bald Peak soon but will definitely need snowshoes up higher for awhile! |
