Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Three significant brooks to cross. First one was the most challenging. I did not use the small logs nearby. Just stepped onto two large flat rocks with 2-3" of fast moving water flowing over (I wore waterproof winter boots and gaiters). Second one was easy. Third one had a snow bridge which had collapsed by the time I returned.

Comments
Comments: Trail was bare for the first 1.3 miles, then put on spikes for the ice. At Bald Peak spur turnoff the trail turned to all snow. Wore spikes and found the top of what will become monorail was stable. Getting a few inches off often resulted in a post hole. Switched to snowshoes near the Kinsman Ridge and wore them to both summits. Ridge trail torn up in places. Between the summits was the worst but snowshoes helped to avoid post holing. On the return the hot temps of the day made the trail very unstable. Observed some people struggling with spikes. Again snowshoes helped. Replaced them with spikes at the Bald Peak spur trail. The rest of the trail was a mess with running water, mud, wet leaves and ice mix. Didn’t need the spikes for too much farther. One challenge with the snowshoes was leaving the north summit encountering a large sloping ledge of bare rock.
