Parking/Access Road Notes:
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow - Spring Snow
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: On the way up, I crossed what turned out later to be a big mud puddle. On the way down, that puddle swallowed most of my boot, when it certainly didn't on the way up. This is to say the snow's melting quickly.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Overall, the trail is in decent shape. There are several blow-downs that don't pose much of a problem at the moment. Several will actually become even easier to manage as the snow melts further.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Met one initially timid pup, and after some gentle affection, decided strange humans aren't scary after all.
Bugs
Bugs: Unexpectedly, a buzzing flying something or another flew into the side of my face whilst in the trees. I think they're starting to wake up again.

Comments
Comments: The forecast was for diminishing winds. I think they pooched that part, because wow, it was windy. The trail is mashed potatoes down low, but above treeline, you have a mix of frozen snow, blue ice, and rocks. It was a little frustrating, because shortly, there will be enough outright rocky terrain that you can bare-boot it without much problem. Just not now. Snowshoes are totally superfluous at this point. Anyone I saw with them, they were merely along for the ride, never actually worn [but carried for safety purposes, as snowpack is DEEP in the woods if an unplanned exit is needed].

As far as the views? It was easily a multi-state/country view. Bluebird day, just with a heaping helping of wind. A fine day to be in the mountains.

Photos and a more detailed trip report are on my blog as always. Share and enjoy!
