Comments
Comments: Great hike today; winter up top and spring down below. Winds were wicked and as advertised 20 to 25 mph sustained with 40-45 gusts atop Field and a few other exposed areas. Some areas were chilly, others calm but the tree cover helped alot. We wore spikes start to finish and gave the snowshoes a ride. The trail was hard packed overall and was tending toward some slush for the last 1.5 miles or so on the descent as temps warmed some. Avalon was nicely hard packed with avoidable boot divots and some post holing throughout. The trail over to Willey had a narrow hard pack, boot divot minefields and leg deep post holes. Over to and up Tom was a nice wide hard pack with minor bumps. Down A-Z was the same with more boot marks on the steeps.
