Sunny day to welcome Spring Equinox (5:24). Unfortunately it also came with subzero temps and tough wind conditions.
Valley Way is a packed sidewalk until about 4,000 ft elevation (prior to campsite spur), then you are breaking trail thru deep drifts, if you could find the trail. Sunday’s weather condition left 1 to 2 ft drifts in areas. Three pairs of snowshoes did their best. Used Snow shoes up Madison and Adams, traction on these would have been fine but after encountering the deep drifts on ValleyWay, we opted to keep them on. Poles absolutely necessary to remain upright in the wind around these summits today.
Congratulations to Sue, who completed her winter 48 with an hour to spare!!
