Comments: It doesn't get much messier than this. Down low it is mud and slush and the higher you get there is more slush. we barebooted all the way up and wore microspikes on the way down. carried snowshoes all day but never put them on. The most snow is on the ridge between Liberty and Flume but ther were dozens of people bare booting so the trail got pretty well packed out.
