Comments
Comments: Weather was gorgeous and the trail was busy. Hiked with my son. Trail was semi packed snow, we opted for snowshoes to avoid pitting the trail. Above lake of the clouds hut, the snow yielded to some blue ice patches that prompted me to switch to microspikes, my son stayed in snowshoes the whole way to the summit.
My son's microspikes had a broken link so he took mine and I used crampons for the descent. I would have preferred microspikes for easier navigation of the rocks. Below tree line on Jewell it was loosely packed snow all the way and I probably should've gone back to snowshoes.
I had ice tools along because I wasn't familiar with the trail and only considered but chose not to take them out for a short traverse section between lake of the clouds and the summit. Did take out a hiking pole for stability at that point instead.
