What an absolute gift of a day! A pre-solstice treat from Mother Nature. Not a cloud in the sky, minimal wind, views to Vermont, and an excellent trail. Spikes door to door but with the warmth, snowshoes will be best to keep the trail in shape. Lots of folks carrying them, only one person wearing them. FW was packed and fast. The ridge was bony between Haystack and Lincoln, with exposed rock and dry trail in spots. Lincoln to Lafayette was packed and loose powder, and some sections could use a good snowshoe pack. OBP was getting squishy on the way down, just after noon. Mashed potatoes, just enough for minimal balling. Opted for the tush express in several sections. |
