Bugs
Bugs: The snow fleas are out! Saw tens of thousands of them at various spots down low on Gale River trail, and on the BB ski trail, but they didn't seem to be hopping, or even moving that much. Perhaps it's too cold for them to be mobile yet?

Comments
Comments: Rick and I wore HS Pro crampons from just after the bridge to a ways past the Little River crossing, then snow shoes for the rest of the hike. We probably should have just left the weight of the crampons in the car and used snowshoes for the entire hike. The trail was well packed by and for snowshoes, with little sign of either post holing or the chop of unshoed boots. What a beautiful day: blue sky, low/no wind , moderate temperatures at all altitudes. Don't think I've ever had much chance in the past to sit and enjoy the views from the Twins in the winter (when I usually go), as the winter conditions are typically too fierce to tarry long on the peaks, or even to see the views. A largish AMC group that we crossed paths with on our way up South Twin were all wearing snowshoes. Saw a Facebook group (whatever that is) at the trailhead that were heading to Hale in microspikes, with no snowshoes on their packs, and with many of them carrying only summer sized day packs. Seemed like a number of them turned back before even getting to Haystack Rd. Of course this trail conditions report will be obsoleted by the incoming weather, but I mainly wanted to report on seeing the snow fleas.
