Parked one car at Beaver Brook Parking Area (plowed, privy is unlocked, about 6 cars in lot at 8am). Parked the other car on the shoulder just outside of the Garfield Trailhead (Route 3/Gale River Loop Road) where there was room for about 5-6 cars, but it was full at 8am. |

Snowshoes the whole way. Mostly packed powder. Hiked to Galehead and then Garfield -- Garfield Ridge Trail was a bit more loose/unpacked, but 4-5 guys had just hiked through it in their snowshoes and my friend and I went through in snowshoes as well, so it was in good condition. The steep section (usually a waterfall when not covered in snow) before Garfield was manageable in snowshoes, especially if you stay to the side of the trail; only a small section of exposed ice and enough sturdy trees along the way. |
