Thank you to the hikers in snowshoes who broke out the trail this week! We had a nice snowshoe track on the way up. However trail is soft. Watch out for the dead end left turn at the top of Stoney Brook. Ledges were snow covered with a little avoidable ice. There were lots of branches in our face on Carter Moriah Trail. The scramble up to Moriah was a nice snow ramp. We had the summit to ourselves along with three hungry Grey Jays. Met a number of hikers in Microspikes ascending when we were on our way down. There were quite a few postholes as we continued on Carter Moriah. Some were a few inches and others were several feet deep . Thank you to the four other hikers in snowshoes who helped smooth the trail out. Didn’t see anyone after Carter Moriah so we are not sure what the trail is like after they descended.
Highly recommend snowshoes. Any damage done will be filled in with the snow coming on Tuesday. |
