Surface Conditions: Snow - Wet/Sticky
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All were easy.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few blowdowns but all were easy to navigate. All trails were faintly marked but easy to follow except for on the ridge. Care should be taken when breaking trail as it is not always clear where to go. Extensive erosion on Livermore Tr between both ends of Mt Tripyramid Tr. Not a problem for hikers as you can walk on either side. Could be a problem for skiers until there is moe snow.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Plenty of snow and water for dogs. Marlie had a great time although a strenuous workout. Many times she found herself armpit deep in the unconsolidated snow.

Comments
Comments: I was the only hiker to park in the lot today. The rest were skiers. I tried using microspikes for about the first half mile then switched to snowshoes. The only other snowshoe tracks stayed on the service road and a lone set of ski tracks continued up the Livermore Tr but turned around at the south junction of the Mt Tripyramid Tr.

From there it was 8-10+ inches of sticky unbroken snow. It was quite heavy sticking to the snowshoes. I started late, about 9:50 and it was 1pm when I reached Pine Bend Brook Tr to find that it was unbroken as well. We pushed on to the summit of North Tripyramid, The steeps were a challenge as there was knee deep loose snow and at times it was two steps forward, one step back. As we descended toward Middle Tripyramid I met three others who had come up Sabbaday Brook Tr and after the junction I was breaking trail again.

We passed over Middle and South Peak and at 3:15pm began to descend the south slide. This was a very tricky combination of sliding and postholing even with the snowshoes. At the bottom I had about an hour of day light left to make the two miles back to the Livermore Tr. I made it with 15 minutes to spare, relieved to not have to break trail anymore. Marlie and I walked the last two miles in the dark but did not need to use the headlamp.
