Comments
Comments: GORGEOUS presi day! Thank you to previous report for breaking out jewell, it was very fluffy snow and just simply amazing. Nothing like the wet heavy snow on Galehead last weekend! Jewell was in great shape. There was one barebooter that probably hiked the day before and everyone I saw had snowshoes on so it’s in great shape. Just watch the sides of the trail for post holes that might be filled in if there’s more snow. Once I got out into the Alpine zone, the trail branched off in a few sets of tracks and one of the sections went through a lot of the vegetations so be careful to watch the cairns and stay on the trail. I veered off a few times and felt so bad for accidentally trampling the veg. No winds-amazing above tree line day and WARM! Many turned around because it was hot. In March in the winter-what a day! Gulfside was tricky navigating the rocks with snowshoes in spots. The last haul to the summit was intense-I haven’t done Jefferson in a while and it’s so far away when you get past Clay. Make sure you have plenty of snack for energy lol. as I descended Jewel another barebooter descended but me and another hiker went behind and smoothed it out-it wasn’t a mess from that one track. The snow was a mess of soft, crunchy, mashed potatoes towards the end of the hike. Spring is coming fast but I feel like we just had winter start!
