| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Oh my stars, there are a LOT of blowdowns. I lost count but easily two dozen. Most will be amenable to a saw but there are a few larger ones. The most interesting two were: a threesome of trees piled together like a ginormous teepee about 0.2 miles below the loop junction. The skiers were struggling up and around this but the snowshoers were ducking under two and stepping over the third. The second one I am calling the “decapitation station”. It’s about 0.3 miles below North Hancock in one of the sections where people have been butt sledding and it’s hidden around a corner .. hence my name for it. If you are butt sledding down the North side of the loop junction (whether purposefully or because you can’t keep your footing), I would advise that you keep your head down. ;) |

Thank you to Ben and his team for breaking out this BEAST on Sunday! Much appreciated!!
The trail has a wonderful snowshoe track but be mindful of a set of bareboot postholes on the trail section going up to North. They are deep and I slid sideways into two of them.
The ridge is drifted over but it was fine.
Ran into two hikers that I know and had a surprise present on my car when I got back to the trailhead. It was a good day on the Hancocks!! |
