| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Lot was not plowed but it wasn't a problem even with just summer tires. Only a few cars in the lot since the tramway wasn't open although the ski area was operating. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Wet/Sticky, Slush |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
No hiking problems and the snow hides most of the ongoing erosion. Blazes in good shape much of the way. I wanted to go over to Mittersill but there's a no pets in this area sign if we tried to go that way and the Profile ledges beckoned for another stop. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
Being an M class schnauzer with short legs, Pepper had to work hard in a few spots to get out of holes and up and over snow covered roots or boulders, and he iced up a bit early on in the sticky snow, but with warm temps, a short trail, and bootprints to follow it really was pretty easy. After the other hikers pack it down a lot more and the warm wind takes a good amount, it really will be an easy trail for dogs. |

I took snowshoes to the TH but seeing it had been booted by several people the day before, I left them in the car and put on microspikes. It turns out some of those hikers turned around at the switchbacks and the two that continued turned off at the ski path, so we broke trail after that. But the spruce-firs had grabbed enough snow, and the rest had settled some, so we were often only in 5-6" the whole rest of the day excluding a few drifts up high.
It was warmest on the peak at 57F with a light breeze; the ledges were an absolute delight at 53 in the sun with almost no wind. It was coldest in the middle, if 40 on the hike back can be considered cold. I hiked in a T shirt almost all day. I'm not sure microspikes helped a whole lot as they slid on the packed wet snow on top of ledge or boulder, on the way down especially, but after the other hikers come down I expect a lot of this rock should be fairly clear and if it doesn't ice up, easily bare bootable. It was such a nice day to be on Cannon. |
