Gorgeous weather. We made a mistake by attempting North Hancock first — seems almost everyone else went up South Hancock first. That meant the trail to North was very unconsolidated and we were breaking a lot of trail up that very steep section. One brave soul went before us, with a very long stride, and even so the snow was so fluffy it really wiped us out. We had intended to do the full loop but turned around after summiting (just in time to let a bunch of people hiking the loop the opposite way go in front of us and continue to pack down the trail). Snowshoes are an absolute must. Even with them, we were often sinking in very deeply and struggling to advance. Not for the faint of heart! |
