Comments
Comments: This hike was fairly difficult and treacherous due to several inches of loose powder snow that was all but impossible to get traction on, and which refused to be packed down regardless of how many hikers went over it on snowshoes. It was especially bad on the Brutus Bushwhack, especially in the sections that are extremely steep. I wished I'd brought my ice axe for ascending these parts of the trail because it would have made it much easier. Descending the Brutus was even worse than climbing it. Even with the large crampons on our snowshoes we were unable to get traction on the very steep sections and were forced to resort to more or less involuntary butt sledding to get down. (If you can avoid doing this, then I'd recommend you do because I slid off the trial into a spruce trap at one point and had a very hard time getting out.) Snowshoes are a must for doing this hike right now. Even the flatter sections were difficult to navigate because of the deep powder and large drifts.
