Valley Way was firm this morning and in great shape, no ice to deal with currently. Osgood up Madison has a few sections of hard glare ice. I would not try this in micros, but maybe sharp Hillsounds could do if careful. We used crampons for the ascent, E.T. in K10s and I was rocking G12s.
We targeted a brief weather window this morning before the snow to grab Madison and Adams. Luck was not on our side, the winds picked up before we hit the hut and then as soon as we started up Madison the snow started to fly. There were some decent gusts, the wind changing direction multiple times, and blowing snow. Visibility dropped to about 1/16th mi. We made the call to skip on going to Adams and were happy to head back down.
Only saw two others heading up who were going to make a judgment call once to the hut. Otherwise just a few day hikers exploring below the treeline today.
Side note, Randolph Path was lightly broken. Airline from the lot looks well broken. |
