Comments
Comments: Used snowshoes start to finish (except brief road walk). Nineteen Mile Brook Tr was broken out pretty well; snowshoes recommended there and essential the rest of the way. Carter Dome Tr from junction with 19MB Tr looked to have been broken by a single snowshoer (up and back) so was a little rough but easily smoothed out by two of us on the way up. At Zeta Pass, snowshoe track continued north on Carter-Moriah Trail. We headed south to summit of Carter Dome, breaking trail through 6-8 inches of pristine snow while navigating the sidehill much of the way up. We traveled back to Zeta Pass and noticed a single snowshoe track had headed up the previously unbroken trail to Mt Hight from C-M junction closer to Zeta. At Zeta Pass we met another snowshoer heading to Carter Dome, so C-M trail from Zeta to Carter Dome should be pretty well smoothed out (but primarily unconsolidated). We headed north on C-M Tr to South Carter, Middle Carter, and Mt Lethe. Trail was roughly broken to South Carter, though a bit chewed up in spots. North of South Carter, the C-M trail was untouched since the recent snow. We broke out C-M Tr from S. Carter, over Middle Carter to Mt Lethe [note: Mt. Lethe is off-trail], North Carter Trail and lower Imp Tr (with a couple minor detours on the latter), then took the Camp Dodge cut-off.
