Comments
Comments: for the most part the trails were dry. some rime and small patches of ice up high on the peaks and some minor icy spots down low on jewell and on the spur. the only section with any continuous snow/ice was going over mt. clay. this was mostly light snow filling the footbed, but there was also some boiler plate snow and ice mixed in.

the jewell spur is currently blocked off with orange fencing and a closed sign where it meets the jewell trail a short distance in from the cog. not sure why the fencing is still up as an alternative route around the washed out bridge has been cut that leads to the cog tracks and then over a larger utility bridge at the base of the tracks. once in the open near the tracks it is currently marked with blue flagging on sticks. it's clear where this leaves the trail as the old trail is blocked off with logs. if heading up from the cog there will be ropes and signs saying only authorized people can cross the bridge, but obviously this doesn't currently apply to hikers.

wore my heavier wind pants and jacket today and for the most part was glad i did though winds were lighter than i expected them to be. carried light traction, but never used it.

ended up being a perfect day to get up above treeline. cold in the wind at times early, but by the afternoon it was really pleasant up there. big thanks to mark and val for the car spot. great day to be out.
