Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: We picked out rocks for rock hops as we were not sure if ice bridges will hold up. There are two ice bridges right now that needed to be used which did hold up for us but felt like a Wellenda Brothers moment while crossing.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are about 1/2 dozen walk overs in the first two miles with one other up by scaur. There are about a dozen or so walk unders throughout the trail. Hike with your head up as there are many eye gougers and face slappers bowing into the trail at face level.

Comments
Comments: Quite a hike on this out and back today. Bright blue skies and fantastic long views from each summit. There was some on and off wind along the way. The trail is a well packed snowshoe trough with a thin layer of grippy snow but step just slightly one way or the other from the packed center and you make an early contribution to the formation of a monorail. It's soft on the sides and you'll sink in even with snowshoes. We chose to go for an earlier start in hopes that the trail would not ball up our traction in the morning chill. We started in spikes up to the Pemi Wilderness sign then snowshoes for the duration from there. We met one spiker hiker on the summit of Middle who said the snow was beginning to stick to her spikes. She stopped to clear her spikes as she started down. We chose to keep the shoes on for traction on the steep descent which worked out well. One intentional and two unintentional butt slides failed. The snow softened as the day progressed but we were thankful that we did not experience any balling up of our traction for the entire day. No other adjoining trails are broken out.
