Started hiking just wearing a sleeveless shirt. Overcast skies. Close to noon sun came out for a few minutes. Perhaps 15 or 20 minutes before intersection of Crawford and Edmands, there was solid ice as well as broken ice, alternating with wet ground. I took microspikes off and on several times, finally just left them on.
A few minutes before trail intersections, became extremely windy and cold. I put on winter clothes, including something to cover my face. Ascended Eisenhower and turned around perhaps .2 miles before summit. Visibility became poor and it continued to be quite windy. I hadn't seen anyone the whole hike. Decided it was better to err on side of safety. When I got back to parking lot at 3pm it was pouring rain. |
