Plenty of parking. No cars when we got there and only one other when we left. Part of the lot is a rutted, icy mess and the parking spaces are smoother but icy. C'mon fellas, how about some salt and plow lovin' during this warm stretch to smooth things out a bit. |

A nice day for this CW lollipop over North and South Hancock. We started with spikes up to the steeps over hard pack and some snow dust, then snowshoes on and tele's up for the calf and quad burner up to the summit of North. The sun peaked out and the breeze picked up but we were comfortable and were able to spend a good amount of time on top admiring the great views. We continued over to South in snowshoes and if we'd do it again, we would've bare booted. The balling of snow on the snowshoes was considerable and a bit aggravating. Given the soft snow, we'd thought we'd bareboot down South and quickly learned that there was only one way to get down. Newton was right about gravity and acceleration and it's a fast track to the bottom. We barebooted out from there with a couple of short but necessary butt slides along the way. The dusting of snow we saw at the beginning of the hike was melted but the trail was hard packed for the whole length. Hopefully the cooler temps coming this weekend alleviate the gumming up of traction. |
