Spectacular day on Moosilauke, clear blue skies and the quietest I've ever seen the summit. Met two hikers departing as I started, they had been at the summit at dawn! Well done! It was the ninth summit of Moosilauke for one of them!
On the way up, trails were well-packed, partly by me a week ago (when I had turned around in a thick white-out near the top), so I sore micro-spikes and the snowshoes went for a ride. Fantastic views from the top of South Peak, even better from Moosilauke. I've never been on that summit by myself, until today.
Ran into two other climbers, but mostly this was a solo hike.
Post holes began on Beaver Brook Trail, easily avoided, but became serious on Asquam Ridge, where I put on the snowshoes. There must have been lots of hurting climbers over the weekend, I could feel their pain! Asquam needs some snow and freezing, then a couple of days of snowshoes, before it'll be reasonable.
I didn't spend much time on Gorge Brook Trail, which is the most heavily-travelled, but it seemed well-packed from the Lodge up to Snapper. |
