My 2nd round on Isolation. Snowshoes the whole way for me, just to keep the trail from getting chopped up. Although on the return, microspikes were a better choice for the Rocky Branch trail. Solar gain, warmer temps down low, and hiker traffic has the snow turning stickier and was hard packed in spots, and slippery granular in others.. Still recommend snowshoes for the bushwhacks. The Engine Hill bushwhack has a split when you get to the big clearing. Go left to take a shortcut, but you miss out on the view at the top of the hill. They merge before meeting the Isolation trail. |
