I turned around in the Hancocks parking area after my hike, there were no other vehicles but a set of Black Diamond poles were lying in the parking area. I put the poles on the bench seat under the pavilion. |

The trails were a white sidewalk from the Kanc trailhead all the way to Mount Osceola. Bare booted to the trail junction, put on Hillsound microspikes then went to Hillsound trail crampons at the steep section of trail and they stayed on until back at the trail junction. The steep section was its usual steep self both up and down. Did the bypass to the bypass when I got to the chimney. Snowshoes were not needed today. The trails have a solid foundation with a semi-firm top layer just right for traction to grab onto. There were no postholes on the main part of the trails but a few off to the side. I did not posthole at all. Incoming precipitation tonight in the form of light snow and freezing drizzle will change the character of the trails and the snowshoes may be needed to stomp down this mixed mess. Then more nasty mess Thursday and Friday will unfortunately change the current conditions. |
