Comments
Comments: Boulder trail to Mt. Major is a packed down highway but gets a bit looser/drier at the summit. Snowmobilers at the summit and on the yellow/blue trail heading west. Blue trail to Straightback also packed out. Blue trail to Anna must've been packed out later when the snow wasn't as wet, so it's loose in places and a couple of times I punched through; judging from the unevenness of it, many people have done the same - I opted to put my snowshoes on for the trip to Anna, but spikes are doable too. Blue and Red trails leading out from Anna looked packed out as well, but don't know how far. The North Straightback Link and onto the quarry trails did not look packed out, saw some postholes heading from the Brook Trail to the North Straightback Link. Brook Trail looks heavily traveled and is a bit chewed up in places; some ice flow on trail and at the crossings. Saw many people heading down the Main Trail from Major so it should be OK too. Chatted with a couple of ladies who did the whole traverse (!) and they reported that they were breaking trail with snowshoes up to their knees somewhere past Gunstock/Belknap (not sure to which point).
