Nice day and excellent trail conditions for this hike today. Spikes to start over the hard packed trail up the road and about two miles up the trail. Some of us switched to snowshoes others used spikes start to finish. The trail could support spikes only but there was plenty of fluffy stuff atop the hard pack on the higher els (about 1"-2" in most places). No wind on the trail and tolerable light on and off winds on top. Got some nice views of Franconia Notch and the big boys on the Presi range before some cloud cover blew in. I was happy for gravity as we began the descent off the summit... not so much when I bushwacked to cutoff a switchback and took a snow bath six paces from the trail. First fall in a long time; glad it was a soft landing. Seven snowshoers today to give trough some snowshoe lovin'; hope it stays that way. Nice chatting with Postal Patty - hope to see you again on the trail real soon. |
