Comments
Comments: The day started by going up the ski slopes from the ski are, once we reach D and the ridge the trail was very roughly broken despite seeing traffic yesterday, the new snow and drifting had filled in most of the trail and therefore required some light breaking out. Once we had crossed the ridge we descended Wildcat Ridge into the notch, this was also very crudely broken out with tracks disappearing frequently. Once we reached the junction with 19 mile the trail was slightly better until the climb up Carter Dome. Once again despite traffic yesterday it looked like it had not been touched. We broke trail through fresh powder and some heavy drifting up top. Once we reached the summit the drifting got much deeper until the intersection with Hight. We opted to go around on the Carter Dome trail, this section was even less packed and looked like it had not seen traffic in a solid week. Once we met up with Zeta pass we noticed that the trail from 19 mile veered through the woods slightly but was BROKEN OUT! Ran into two women who were headed to Carter Dome as well. The trail to South Carter was a well packed but after South it seemed to have seen no traffic other than one snowshoer today who we eventually ran into. Ran into several group once we were going to and from Middle and South, all wearing snowshoes resulting in a well packed but still soft trail. Zeta Pass to the car was east coasting, well packed and all rocks and roots well hidden. 6 of us made the traverse today, all in snowshoes.
