Comments
Comments: Two of us attempted the winter wildcat carter moriah traverse. We were the first ones on trail after the storms, so we broke trail throughout the entire wildcat and carter ranges. There was deep snow with a breakable crust of ice on top. The sidehill sections coming down from wildcat A were pretty sketchy. Another group hiked up nineteen mile brook, carter dome trail to south carter. The Imp trail, north carter trail route seemed unbroken. We had a pretty tough time hiking down from north carter. There were many chest high trees down to climb over and many branches hanging at chest or face level. This section took us so long that the sun set as we were passing imp mountain. Since we were having such a tough time navigating the unbroken snow in the dark, we had to bail down stony brook (also breaking trail down that) and do a 1.5 mile road walk back to my car on bangor street.
