Part of Old Cherry Mtn road is closed for season. But, the first 1/2 mile or so is residential and plowed. Drove to the gate, parked on the side of road. |

Started walking past gate and up Old Cherry Mtn rd. In a few hundred yards it becomes part of the snowmobile routes in Carroll (they take an alternate route back towards Rt 302). Walked to the beginning of the LDT trailhead between campsites 3 & 4; there is a distinctive tree stump on the opposite side of the road. Three of us broke trail all the way to summit in snow shoes. Trail had about 6-10" of powder with a hard crust from the recent rains. First person was often supported, but the 2 following broke through the crust, making for slightly slowed progress. We left the trail in pretty good shape, but would recommend snowshoes since it is still somewhat soft. In one place, we got off the trail a little, sorry for the slight detour. Nice views at the ledge. Plus, there is a mail box with a register. |
