Comments
Comments: Beautiful snowshoe track on Nineteen Mile Brook Trail, but this still needs snowshoes. There are various sections here and there with some exposed rocks and standing water, but did not cause any issues. At the junction for the Carter Dome Trail I noticed that the trail is broken out and from the jct looked like a nice snowshoe track. At the junction for the Wildcat Ridge Trail, looking to the left to head to the hut, I noticed that the trail is broken out and from the jct. looked like a nice snowshoe track. We also met some hikers at the trailhead who had spent the night at the hut and had just come down. We passed two bare booters and a pup descending and they said they made it to the WRT and had to turn back since they did not have snowshoes and were planning on heading to the Cats. We started on the WRT heading to Wildcat A and you definitely need shoes. We saw one set of snowshoe tracks, but the trail was not packed. We continued, and I was not digging the unstable, unpacked side sloping at all, so about 1/4 mile up the trail made the decision to turn back. My boyfriend and I both wore MSR's from start to finish and very happy with that choice for traction today.
