 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Appalachia was full at 7:45 when I arrived. I parked along the snow bank on the inside of the lot. Entire lot full, and cars on the side of Route 2 when I got back at 12:30. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
One blowdown on VW that may be covered after this week with the incoming storm. Another one higher up that is probably going to need some work once the snow depth increases. You can fairly easily walk under it now, but if 2 more feet of snow come, it's going to be very awkward. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Probably would have been good for them today with the fresh snow covering everything. |

This report will be moot in 12-24 hours, but mostly this is just a friendly reminder that if you're going out after fresh snowfall, snowshoes are always going to be your best option for traction. Yes, there were plenty of people in spikes out (and to be fair, most of them were not carrying snowshoes), but the powder is soft and loose, and snowshoes are just going to make your life so much easier.
Hopefully the midweek faithfuls that break out the trails leave the start of a good snowshoe track for next weekend. It doesn't look like there will be any kind of thaw/freeze cycle between now and then, so mentally start gearing up to wear your shoes next weekend :) |
