Comments: Conditions were waaayyyy better than I expected given the weather the last couple days. Crawford Path from 302 to the Crawford Connector (just the bottom 0.2 miles) was a little crummy, but above that it was actually pretty decent. We wore spikes almost to the Mitzpah Cutoff, then put the snowshoes on, just for the added traction and efficiency. There were plenty in spikes and maybe a couple bare booting it, but I was happy to have the snowshoes on (it’s worth it just for the televators alone…). Pierce summit was firm, a little wind blown, but not bad at all.

The traverse over to Eisenhower was less packed out, but still easy enough. No real issues to speak of.

When we got pack to Pierce on our “out and back,” we considered looping through Jackson too, but several people reported that the trail is a mess—lots of post holes and pretty crummy. We decided to skip it so no firsthand knowledge. Take that info for what it’s worth.

It was a super speedy descent down Crawford Path. There are a few ice bridges not yet formed, so be careful when stepping over the dips. Otherwise it’s starting to get packed down nicely.

It was a great day out there. Don’t let the weather these last couple days turn you away—it doesn’t seem to have done as much damage as I expected (at least not on the southern Presi).
