Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Blue, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All of the small crossings were very easy to step over/walk across rocks. The large open water crossing was not too bad, there is a log across covered with ice but we chose to hop across the large rocks next to the log. I used poles, but my boyfriend just walked across easily.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail in good shape. A few blow downs but nothing out of the oridinary.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Our pup, Kodiak, had a blast as always :) On our descent we saw one other pup who was enjoying the day!
Bugs
Bugs:
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing lost, nothing found.

Comments
Comments: Hillsound trail crampons start to finish, snowshoes went for a ride. Trails were in pretty good shape! Bike path was not too bad, I have seen it worse for sure! A few inches of snow with some frozen tracks. On the return the snow was pretty soft. The beginning of Liberty Springs Trail had packed snow, and still some bare areas up the middle with rocks and water. Water crossing notes above. Then for about a mile or so, about up to the tent site, the trail was covered with blue ice, most covered with a light dusting of snow. Our Hillsounds were totally fine on the ascent. On the descent we did have to use caution and move more slowly than we were hoping, still was not too bad, and the Hillsounds were fine. Franconia Ridge Trail had packed snow all the way to Liberty, some small sections above tree line had some loose powder. Descending the back side of Liberty was pleasantly packed and stable, and then the trail the rest of the way to Flume had a few inches of snow. On this section between Liberty and Flume, either spikes or snowshoes would have been fine this morning. Much of this had a crust. After Flume, on the return, we passed a lot of hikers heading to Flume. Everyone we passed was in spikes, and the trail was getting packed down. As of late morning, there was no post-holing.
