Comments
Comments: Picked up an orphan - lower Greenleaf Trail - that I somehow hadn’t hiked before in calendar winter. After the parallel-the-parkway section, the trail ascends to Eagle Pass which is worthy destination in its own right. Lots of big rocks and boulder caves to explore there and, of course, the ‘whack up Eagle Cliff if one is so inclined. I had the trail completely to myself until well past the hut. No one had done the Sunset Rock Spur recently.

Surface was 2-3” of fresh powder over a firm base. Very few postholes. I was able to bareboot to the hut. From there on spikes were perfect. Was such a stellar weather day that I continued to the summit of Lafayette. Woo hoo! From the summit all the way down OBP there is just enough good snow so your spikes aren’t scraping on rocks very much.

Fun to meet some old and new friends on the trail today!
