This was a very challenging hike. I started bare boot and put on micro spikes at the junction of Mount Osceola trail. Loose powder down low. As the trail got steeper it got much icer. I stopped about half way and switched to my K10 crampons. While stiff tough going, this made a huge difference. Decided at the East Osceola summit to continue on to Osceola. The chimney at the start of the Osceola ascent was a frozen waterfall. Being solo, I decided to find a bypass. The usually bypass felt unsafe so I found another down lower. Continued on to Osceola then back tracked my way out. Kept the K10s on until almost back to junction. Trail conditions were not the usual mid-winter. More like early spring after a few melts. Great hike, hard work, super steep. |
