Wore a mix of microspikes and crampons throughout the hike. Crampons were definitely required in sections, I highly recommend not attempting this loop with solely microspikes. Started from Lafayette campground and ascended Cannon via Hi Cannon, microspikes were sufficient and the Hi Cannon trail is in good condition. Then traversed from Cannon to North Kinsman via kinsman ridge, crampons were used on this trail. The descent down Cannon on kinsman ridge was the hardest section of trail, very thick sketchy sections of ice. For the Kinsman summits used microspikes. Descended via fishin' jimmy from the Kinsmans to lonesome lake, used crampons. There was one steep section with very thick ice. |
