The 3rd crossing looks almost rock hoppable. But I crossed at the tree spaning the river about 50 yards upstream. |

Trail crampons to 2500'. Snowshoes to the summit. Trail Crampons back down and out. It's wet and icy to about 2500'. After that it's ice under about 3" of powder. While everyone else I saw (5 people) were just wearing spikes, I found that snowshoes provided much better traction on the way up. Makes sense....more points of contact and some flotation. When climbing North and going to South, it always pays to carry snowshoes on the North Twin Spur trail in winter. It's a slog without them. |
