A MAGNIFICENT day in the forest was had. Several familiar faces out which made the day that much better. Largely in the clouds until the ledges past Middle Carter, of which we where treated to an absolute stunner of an undercast of Mount Washington. That was NOT on my bingo card! 19 Mile to the initial junction of Carter Dome Trail is a hot mess of wet, sticky snow, running water, and leaves. Bare boot is probably best for this 1.9 mile section. It's incredibly sad how little snow there is out there. We had pleasant conditions on our ascent of CDT to C-M in the area of Zeta, solid. Spikes in this section and for the rest of all trails traveled. I am an avid snowshoe person but they made no sense today with the way the trails are. They would have been of no use. The sidehill section from Zeta to Carter Dome starts of lovely and turns into the nightmare it usually is. Choppy for sure but again solid, so you can boogey on it. Conditions from Zeta to South Carter where much of the solid base we had grown used to, some snowshoers had gone this way but there was only 1" at most of fresh powder, I joked that they just put them on because they had them. Confirmed when I met the trio. AGAIN ran into a familiar face around the summit of South "This guy -- again?!" ha. Pleasant solid conditions persisted over to Middle, as noted, a stunner of an under cast was had. Coming down North Carter trail, the fun ended. I was able to sit atop the sign at the junction. I am not sure if I should be mad or impressed this person did not blow an Achilles coming down from here. Post holes taller than my trek pole, measuring up to about my belly on a 5'3" person. Absolutely insane. This continues the entire length of the trail, more or less. From the junction of North Carter and Imp, it just kept getting worse. The only way it could have been worse is if someone was chasing us. One of the worst sections of trail I have seen in a long, long time. Incredibly tedious to descend. Massively chopped up. Glad there was beer in the car waiting for us at the end of this. That was an absolute horror show. Snowshoes would be doable from North Carter trail to probably about Middle Carter. The familiar face mentioned above had gone through not long before we had and their tracks where all but gone by the wind.

I cannot believe I have reached this point. It's been almost seven years. There is but one more mountain to climb for THE GRID!! For the sheer joy of climbing!
