Comments
Comments: It was lightly snowing all morning, and there was a couple of inches of fresh snow from overnight on the well packed trail heading up to Pierce. Crawford Path was in much better condition than last weekend! The trail was packed enough under the light powder so that our Hillsounds were fine. We did carry our snowshoes but never needed them. There were tracks up until the Mizpah Cutoff, and after that we were the first tracks. It was quick up to Pierce, and then the wind started to pick up. We continued over to Eisenhower, and we were still the first ones on the fresh snow, only a few inches and still packed underneath, so did not put on the shoes. At about .60 miles from the summit the wind and snow was a bit too much for our pup so we turned around. Winter is his season for sure, and he does incredible in the snow, ice, and cold temps...but that wind blowing the snow is what gets him. Also, at that same point, with the visibility not so great, and the fresh snow, it was a bit of a challenge navigating and staying on trail. I have done Eisenhower many times, including winter, and this is the first time that I have had a challenge with that. After we turned around a couple hikers were heading towards Eisenhower, so hopefully they were successful today! On our descent there was the usual heavy traffic heading up Crawford Path. Pierce is always a popular one!
