Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Zealand rd is closed. I parked at the snowmobile lot and walked in. On my way out, someone had skirted around the gate and driven a full size truck all the way to the Hale trailhead. No idea how they fit the truck around the gate

Comments
Comments: mixed bag of conditions today.

Zealand road was a breeze- minor, avoidable ice. Barebooted to trailhead.

1st mile+ (to crossing): mud, leaves, snow, ice, rocks. Just mixed garbage. Would recommend beater spikes for this section. Shortly after the crossing, the snow pack increased to nearly full coverage for the sidehill ascent. Snow shoes were the best through here (Televaters!!) There were a few bare sections on the switchbacks, but easy enough to walk around.

Snow pack was very firm as it was colder Sunday night into Monday, however there were plenty of postholes that had frozen rock solid. Easier to float over these in snowshoes vs bare boots / spikes.
