Down low there were a lot of bare spots and also ice which made wearing microspikes difficult. Getting a little higher, there was more ice on trail consistently and hard snow and it was pretty crunchy so microspikes worked well at this point. We never needed snowshoes as the base was firm all the way to the summit. There were some old postholes just off trail closer to the summit, but if you stayed in the center you could avoid them. At the junction where you can take left or right loop, some of us went right and some left. Left was confirmed to be an easier .3 to the summit. Weather was calm but no visibility at the top. Three boreal chickadees kept coming around to visit. Lots of people on trail today. |
