Comments
Comments: Didn't feel like January today. Sections of hard pack followed by stretches of running water/mud/rocks followed by slush culminating in a sweet stretch of non-post holed frozen solid glory the last mile or so. Was able to cross the river on the way up on a rapidly deteriorating ice bridge. Junction of Bunnell Notch and Kilkenny a slurry of running water and shin deep slush; with snowshoes, managed to stay (mostly) dry. Other minor crossings not an issue. Ice bridge gone on return trip - it was warm and I didn't feel like searching for an alternate route, so I just walked across the river. That's what dry car shoes are for! Wore my snowshoes most of the way, took them off after crossing the Bunnell junction on the way down since there was just so much exposed rock. Nice to hike with Peter, who was kind enough not to laugh when my shoes got crossed and I face-planted. This trail needs some snow and a stretch of cold weather. I won't be back soon, as it was #12 to Grid out Cabot :)
