Headed out around 8AM. Lower section of trail was packed, easy going. AS we got higher in elevation and the temperature got warmer the snow became deeper and softer making snowshoes almost necessary. The trail from Chapel Rock junction to the summit had not been broken so snowshoes were definitely required for that part. No views at the summit but nice views from the lookouts. The hike down was adventurous with the snow becoming very soft, even with snowshoes we slid quite a few times down the steeper sections, skis would have been fun!
Overall excellent weather for a winter hike even if it did make the snow a bit more challenging. |
