Parking/Access Road Notes: Haystack Road open and generally dry, aside from a little bit of ice/snow near the bridge.

Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Ice - Blue, Mud - Significant, Snow/Ice - Small Patches, Standing/Running Water on Trail

Recommended Equipment: Light Traction 
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Bypassed first two crossings on herd path, which has a few minor crossings on it. Crossing number three can be done on some blowdowns. 
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Two or three easily stepped over 8" diameter rotten blowdowns. Two portions of trail between crossings 2 and 3 have flagging from Irene damage, including a slight reroute on one.

Comments
Comments: Trail was generally snow free. Pooled water in one place prior to crossing 3 likely due to Irene damage. Very little snow encountered until above 4,000 feet. Some snow/ice near the scrambles - light traction probably a good idea, though doable with care. Quasi-consistent snow (1-2") between viewpoints. Ground generally not frozen.
