| Comments: |
Mt Kinsman Trail was mostly bare to start but only for about a tenth of a mile or so. Chose to use Microspikes from the parking lot (though I cringed alot when there wasn't enough snow or ice to walk on for about the first half mile) up to the ridge with no postholing whatsoever. Though the trail was packed well, the snow became drier and softer as we got higher, so the snowshoes came off the pack at the intersection of Mt Kinsman and Kinsman Ridge Tr and I used them for the rest of the day until about the last 3 miles at which time I changed back to Microspikes. Compared with so many of the trails right now, we felt fortunate with the overall conditions of these trails. |
