Avalon trail: spikes or snowshoes work, I used both - snowshoes were helpful on the higher steep sections. They were tricky in some sections where the trail was too narrow to wear them comfortably. Conditions were variable but trail had a layer of snow the entire way.
A-Z trail: I wore spikes but snowshoes would have been better as the snow started to accumulate
Mt Tom spur: pretty packed out and spikes worked well
Willey range trail: we got a few inches of snow during the day so at this point snowshoes might be preferable to prevent sliding around. The trail was on top of a crusty layer of snow that seemed stable.
I was going to go over to Willey but due to time constraints decided not to. The trail heading in that direction looked solid but I did not venture far past Field. |
