Snowshoes car to car. They may not be needed on the snowmobile trails, but very necessary for the BWs. From the parking spot, we continued up Mount Misery Road to the junction with #5 snowmobile corridor. We turned right heading South on the trail.
We decided to tackle Townes Mtn first. Shortly after a sharp left turn (about a mile) we began the bushwhack heading up to the summit of Townes Mtn. Woods were pretty open, and only steep(ish) on the final ascent of the summit. For a while we followed what may have been an old logging or skidder road. Snow had a slight crust over about 6-8" of powder; overall easy traversing. Once we signed in, we traced our footsteps back to the snowmobile trail, and returned to a point parallel with the Mt Misery summit where we turned left and started the BW. The woods in this area were also open and easily traversed, similar to the previous BW. Once signed in we proceeded back towards the Snowmobile corridor / Mt Misery road intersection and back to the car.
No problems locating either of the orange taped jars. Lots of critter tracks in the snow provided interest on this hike. Overall 2 1/2 hours of fun exploring the woods. |
